Ironically this video of 100th anniversary of W.C.Fields movies, starts with the presenter only being shown for the bottom half of his body, as we can’t see the top of his head. Who operated the film camera as it’s not much much better when Fields granddaughter came on?

1:10 Ha! I was watching this and kept thinking he *had* to have known Roddy McDowall. They were both such avid lovers of film and the creative people who made them and also seemed to know everybody and made friends with the big and sometimes forgotten leading ladies. Roddy would have made a great host too imo.... Robert was such a charming, gentle man. I'm so glad he found his perfect spot in life, and that we benefited for so long

I miss Robert so much and Alec Baldwin but Ben M. & the others with the strike, heck TCM is GREAT! I can't imagine why they refuse to pay these talented people for the new wave of streaming & as usual a corporate country (run & owned by conglomerates) the poorest of the public will pay! In the long run that's why the middle class is history!

😂 🎉 ok, I’ll chime in. Over 50 years ago I was a music student in Vienna for 1 year. Students don’t have a lot of money. During that year I saw over 50 operas in the Staatsoper in “standing room only” in the top two tiers. (4 and 5?). These were world class performances by the VPO and the opera organization. There was a “standing room” routine (after buying the tickets) where we followed an usher up the stairs to these tiers and when he/she reached the tiers and “split,” we all scrambled to get the best standing room places in tiers 4 and 5 (behind the seats). Almost all of the time you had a pretty good view and great sound. The cost was about 10 Austrian Schillings (about $1 US). Again this enable me to see over FIFTY plus world-class operas as a student. One of the best experiences of my life-even though standing room. There was always an elderly lady sitting in a standing place with a musical score for the opera and little light. I always wondered if she was somehow connected to Mahler (conductor at the Staatsoper in early 1900s. ?? Continuing, I had the same experience with over 50 concerts in the Musikverein with the VPO, again in standing room. This was the best “musical year” of my life (1971-72). Life-changing experience. The Viennese musical culture is über world class.😊

He said if someone came knocking on his door to offer him a part he'd jump at the chance, so that leads me to believe he didn't quit acting because he wanted to. I wonder why producers and directors forgot about him. He was never a leading actor, but he was always good in the supporting roles he played. I especially enjoyed him in Fandango and the Running Man.
